Select a simulation to begin. Each lasts 30-60 seconds and can be stopped at any time.

Reading Challenge

Try to read the paragraph below and notice how the text behaves. Letters may appear backwards, jump around, blur together, or swap positions.

The bird flew quickly over the pond while the dog watched from below. Reading should be peaceful, but sometimes letters dance and blur before your eyes. Words like "was" and "saw" become confusing when letters flip directions. Similar shapes like b, d, p, and q can look nearly identical. Even after reading the same passage over and over, the words may not stick in memory.

What You Might Experience

Some letters might appear backwards or upside down. Text can seem to jump around on the page, making it hard to follow along. Letters with similar shapes like o, e, and c become difficult to tell apart. The same goes for letters that share a shape but face different directions, like b, p, d, and q.

Words can look jumbled and out of order, or bunched so tightly together that they blur into one. Sometimes entire words appear completely reversed, so "bird" might look like "drib." Some readers get headaches or feel sick every time they try to read.

Others can see the letters just fine but struggle to connect them to sounds. Some can sound out words but never recognize them, even after seeing them dozens of times. And some readers understand the words but cannot hold onto what they just read, finding themselves going back to the same passage again and again.

Reflection

For many children with dyslexia, reading takes enormous effort. This is not because they lack intelligence, but because their brains process written language in a different way. The mental energy this requires can lead to fatigue, frustration, and avoidance. Early identification opens doors to strategies that help children thrive.
